Description

Rectangular table (a) of red oak (Quercus rubra) supported by three splayed legs of maple (Acer spp.). Wheel post of white ash (Fraxinus americana) through-mortised in table with a steel wheel axle that is bolted through post. Two maple supports of maple (Acer spp.), through-mortised into table and pegged from below, hold ash (F. americana) spindle post which swivels on a maple (Acer rubrum) threaded pin with a maple (Acer spp.) nut. A maple tensioning screw is held by a maple support through-mortised into table (both Acer spp.). Wheel (b) for a wool wheel with maple (Acer spp.) hub and 12 spokes and a two-sectioned rim of white ash (Fraxinus americana). Hole for axle in hub lined with an iron bushing. Maple (Acer spp.) bat head (c) with a steel spindle fitted with a maple (Acer spp.) drive pulley and stop disk held on to bat head by woven straw cords.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
