Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon is seeking an Advancement Associate who will support senior staff in the execution of Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon’s advancement initiatives. This individual will work closely with other staff to fulfill the objectives of the museum’s strategic plan during an exciting phase of organizational development. He or she will serve as an effective connector of multiple constituencies, both internal and external. This is a part-time position with the possibility of becoming full-time.


  • Assist senior staff in the execution of all fundraising efforts and advancement initiatives
  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and / or any other related correspondence
  • Maintain, update, and expand the donor database, ensuring that all information is logged accurately
  • Oversee the museum’s membership programs, including new membership campaigns and renewal campaigns; manage member benefits
  • Work closely with other museum staff to plan and execute events for potential supporters
  • Support advancement initiatives by creating necessary collateral materials
  • Undertake special projects as assigned by senior staff


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in a similar capacity
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite; database management strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with a variety of constituents, including staff, visitors, donors, and community members
  • A level of professionalism which is necessary for effective relationship management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success independently managing projects with conflicting deadlines and priorities
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Fundraising or comparable sales experience preferred
  • Experience with MailChimp, Shopify, WordPress, GiftWorks, and / or HootSuite preferred
  • Basic design and layout skills a plus

Hours and Benefits:

This is a permanent, part-time position, with the possibility of becoming full-time. The position includes pro-rated vacation, holiday, and sick leave. Pay is between $15 – $20 per hour depending on experience. Evenings and / or weekends sometimes required.

The mission of Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon is to engage and inspire local, national, and global audiences by telling the story of the American Shakers. In 2004, Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon became owner and steward of the North Family site at Mount Lebanon Shaker Village, consisting of 10 remaining Shaker buildings on 30 acres, part of the Mount Lebanon Shaker Society National Historic Landmark. The Museum also maintains a campus in Old Chatham, New York, where the collections are stored and the administrative staff is housed. This position will work primarily at the Old Chatham site.
