Although seemingly simple to make, the Shaker box is a test of woodworking skill that relies on patience, precision and reverence. These same qualities exist today at Pete Baxter Woodworks reproducing oval boxes, in addition to carriers, chairs and other specialty pieces, honoring the same Shaker traditions. Pete Baxter is a first generation woodworker specializing in Shaker chairs and oval boxes. He is self-taught in both mediums.
His interest in Shaker furniture started in undergraduate school with an elective course on Shaker life. A life long resident of Seymour, IN his workshop is in a building constructed by his maternal grandfather in the early 1950's.
