Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon hosts Eileen Myles at Jeff Bailey Gallery

Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon
hosts Eileen Myles reading from their new book of poems Evolution
at Jeff Bailey Gallery
Saturday, October 27, 4:00 pm

This new collection of poems by Eileen Myles finds our game-changing writer keying lines in the euphoric style that the New York Times has called “one of the essential voices in American poetry.”

In Evolution, Eileen Myles returns with the first all-new collection of poems since 2011’s Snowflake/different streets. Also following the critically acclaimed Afterglow (a dog memoir)—as well as the volume of selected poems, I Must Be Living Twice—here we find the eminent, exuberant poet upending genre in a vernacular that enacts, like nobody else, the way we speak (inside and out) today. From worldly travel to walks around Marfa with Honey the pit bull, from the aisles of Target to a utopian future where Eileen is elected president—while channeling cell phones, Shakers, Diet Coke, and Fresca—Evolution radiates vital insight, purpose, and risk.

Copies of the book will be available for sale, as well as a limited edition broadside.

Praise for Eileen Myles

“The great queer poet of our time.” —Maggie Nelson

“Myles possesses, in abundance, two qualities of the highest value for a writer, irreverence and relentless curiosity.” —Sigrid Nunez, New York Times Book Review

“The art: I mean it’s pretty but it ain’t pretty and all of that is in there, in the way you move and walk around.” —Fred Moten

“A New York poet, maybe the New York poet, a swaggering troubadour of casually roving brilliance.” —Olivia Laing, Guardian

EILEEN MYLES is the author of more than twenty books, including Chelsea Girls and Cool For You. Myles’s many honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, four Lambda Literary Awards, the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing, Creative Capital’s Literature Award, and an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers grant.
