Plane, Edge

Edge plane, Canterbury, NH

Object ID:
1952.4677.1
Community:
New Hampshire, Canterbury
Description

Combination edge iron and plane. Unlike the standard edge iron the combination iron and plane is not solid metal. There is a circular cut-out throughout the body of the iron. The iron itself also has a diagonal slit to accommodate the planing function. The iron has a screw on one side, but its function is not entirely clear, whether it holds the iron to the turned wood handle, or if it reinforces the iron and plane piece itself.
