Description
Product label. Four rectangular panels with red-orange frames. The two larger have concave corners at top; these are divided into unequal halves horizontally. Upper half has large emblem and crest with an illustration of an owl and scales. Thinner panels have sharp corners and are divided into three sections horizontally. Two end panels are in French, while two central panels are in English.

In 1884, the Mount Lebanon Shakers filed a lawsuit for patent infringement against Smith Bros & Co., a Montreal-based company that had trademarked and sold a medicine called Shakers' Blood Syrup without the knowledge or consent of the Shakers. In January of 1885, the firm agreed that it had no right to use the Shaker name or claim that the medicine was Shaker-made, and closed.
