Description

The Clinton Dam, so named in this album, is now known as the Wachusett Dam in Clinton, MA. Completed in 1905, it dams the south branch of the Nashua River to supply water for the city of Boston, MA. When completed the Wachusett Reservoir was the largest public water supply reservoir in the world and the Wachusett Dam was the largest gravity dam in the world. It was certainly worthy of a look on the Shakers' trip through Massachusetts. The photograph is from an album created by Elder Delmer Wilson titled, "Views by the Way from Sabbathday Lake to Alfred, Harvard, Hancock and Watervliet, Oct. 6-16, 1915."
