Mount Lebanon Peace Weekend

From Saturday, August 29 through Monday, August 31, 2015, the Museum held a Peace Weekend to mark the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Shakers' 1815 Declaration of pacifism and non-violence, and the 110th anniversary of the Mount Lebanon Shakers' August 31, 1905 Peace Convention held in the Meetinghouse.

Events included: on Saturday afternoon, Rejecting War, a reading of the 1815 Declaration at the North Family historic site; a Sunday morning Shaking Up Sundays brunch and discussion group about Shaker pacifism in the historic 1824 Meetinghouse; on Sunday evening, Being Peacemakers, a panel discussion with speakers actively involved in current peace work, including Dr. Joseph Gerson, Director of the Peace & Economic Security Program at the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Jun Yasuda of the Grafton Peace Pagoda, and Dr. Patricia Salomon of Massachusetts Peace Action; and a Monday afternoon walking tour from the North Family to the Meetinghouse themed around the 1905 Peace Convention.
