Join us on August 6 for a commemoration of Landing Day marking the Shakers' arrival in America.
Landing Day represents the beginning of the American story of the Shakers. August 6, 1774 is traditionally marked by the Shakers as the day that Ann Lee and her small group of followers landed in America, at the time comprised of several colonies of the British Empire and in the midst of growing political unrest. It was in this new land that Mother Ann, as she is known to Shakers, established the Shaker Church just outside of Albany, New York before founding their first organized community at New Lebanon.
