Saturday, August 25, 10:30 – 12:30, Mount Lebanon
The Shakers made jam in numerous flavors such as Ginger Peach, Rose Hip, Cherry, Rhubarb and more. Now, participants will learn from New Lebanon's Deb Gordon how to make their own Shaker-inspired jam inside the historic Forge at Mount Lebanon. Participants will make rhubarb and cherry jam based on a Shaker recipe and using rhubarb planted by the North Family Shakers and still growing at Mount Lebanon. Participants will take home new skills, several Shaker jam recipes, and a jar of warm rhubarb cherry jam.
Deb Gordon is a retired historic preservationist who worked for 30 years for the NYS Parks and the Bureau of Historic Sites. Gordon has been making jam for almost twice that long, starting back in the days when jam jars were sealed with hot paraffin (wax).
Registration is open. Spaces are extremely limited. Limited to 8 participants, minimum of 6.
